The admission process is designed to select students with strong academic background and capability, work and leadership experience, and personal and professional goals fitting with this mission.
We seek students for whom our MBA and certificate program will provide needed knowledge, competencies, relationships, and leadership development to enable them to succeed. In addition, our objective is to admit students who will contribute to the diversity of our learning community and to the diversity of professional leaders and managers in organizations.
Applicants self-select during pre-admission communications, which address BGI mission, program, learning community, faculty, intensives, career planning and academic advising. Often this involves in-depth discussions with faculty and administrators, interviews with current students and alumni, and attending classes. For more information, please see our current catalog.
MBA Admission
Evaluation for admission is based on verbal and written communication skills, reasoning and analytical ability, leadership potential, intellectual ability, interest in sustainability, and fit with BGI mission and learning pedagogy as demonstrated through the admissions process, application and interview.
We seek students who will contribute to the academic, cultural, ethnic, racial, sexual and socio-economic diversity and evolution of our learning community.
Application Packet
Admission Requirements in the MBA Program includes an interview and the complete application packet, which consists of:
- Online application
- Personal Statement
- Essay
- Resume
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- GMATor GRE scores
- $95 application fee. This fee is non-refundable and due at the start of application. Application fee waivers are not available.

Early decision applications for the Hybrid MBA. All early decision students whom we offer acceptance will be invited to participate in a special event during an MBA intensive, designed to start building a strong learning community for which BGI is known.
For Standard Admission, we guarantee consideration to all standard admisison applicants.
For Late Admission, we do not guarantee consideration for late applicants. Late applications are accepted on a case-by-case basis dependent on space availability. Applications completed after Standard Admission phase may only be offered admission to BGI's 3-year program, this decision is at the Dean's discretion.
When the MBA program reaches capacity, admitted students will be waitlisted for the following fall and offered the opportunity to enroll in the certificate program. Credits earned in the certificate program are transferable to the MBA.

Interviews
Interviews are the most critical part to the evaluation process—for you and for us.
Interviews are designed as a mutual conversation where we discuss fit in three basic areas:
- Is this person prepared to succeed in this program?
- Will we be offering this person high value? Does this program fit their academic needs and goals?
- What distinctive talents, skills and expertise will this person bring to the community?
We are happy to arrange in-person or telephone interviews.

Certificate Admission

BGI Certificate program is delivered at the graduate-school level. Students will receive a Certificate in the topic of the program enrolled in upon successful completion of the program.

Certificate Application Deadlines
Applications to BGI's Certificate program are accepted on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications up until the program is full.
We strongly recommend that you complete the application process early as interest in these programs is high. You may apply to any quarter however, admission to spring quarter may require Dean and/or faculty approval.
Winter Quarter begins January 4th, 2010 - Applications are due no later than December 1st, 2009. Orientation for winter quarter is December 4th, 2009 and held on Bainbridge Island.
Spring Quarter begins March 29th, 2010 - Applications are due no later than March 8th, 2010. Orientation for spring quarter is March 12th and held on Bainbridge Island.
Fall Quarter applications are due no later than September 7th, 2010. The orientation date is September 11; fall orientation is held in downtown Seattle.
